The team approach to comprehensive management of multiple sclerosis (MS) is now widely recognized as the optimal way to address the complex needs of people with MS in order to achieve the most successful outcomes for the patient, family, and the healthcare system. This one-day program will provide learners with an opportunity to examine the care of people with MS from a team perspective, a tried-and-true approach recommended by the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC). The program will focus on a patient centered care model for the comprehensive MS management, identifying members of the team and their unique roles, and discuss potential barriers to the model’s successful implementation in practice. Expert presenters will discuss challenging real-life cases encouraging faculty-learner interaction throughout the program.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
•Apply new information in a comprehensive individualized MS treatment plan
•Integrate the collaborative team approach into planning and optimizing rehabilitation services
•Modify rehabilitation interventions to accommodate for fluctuating or ongoing MS symptoms
•Critically analyze case studies to apply learned material to clinical challenges
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physicians, nursing professionals, mental health professionals, and other members of the healthcare team who manage patients with MS.
